Difference between Angular contact ball bearings and deep groove ball bearings

Ball bearing, as one of the two members of the class of rolling, or so-called anti-friction, bearings (the other member of the class is the roller bearing). The function of a ball bearing is to connect two machine members that move relative to one another in such a manner that the frictional resistance to motion is minimal. In many applications one of the members is a rotating shaft and the other a fixed housing.

In the group of ball bearings, you can see several types of ball bearings, deep groove ball bearings and Angular contact ball bearings are two of them. What’s the difference between the two?

Deep groove ball bearings are a non-separable type bearing with the line connecting contact points of the inner ring, steel ball, and outer ring of 0ºin the radial direction. They are designed to take mainly radial loads but can handle some axial load in either direction.

Angular contact bearings are also a non-separable type. The line connecting contact points of the inner ring, steel ball, and outer ring creates an angle with the line drawn in the radial direction called the contact angle. Angular contact bearings can accommodate relatively heavy axial loads in one direction in addition to radial loads. The larger the contact angle, the larger the axial loading capacity becomes.
